Can the IRS levy my bank account without notice?

Updated October 8, 20262 sourcesTaxTruce teamFact checked
The short answer

Usually not. The IRS normally sends a notice of intent to levy and your right to a hearing at least 30 days before. A state refund levy can come with the hearing notice after. The levy notice can be given in person, left at your home or work, or sent by certified mail.

Some federal contractor levies can come with a notice after the levy.
