## Who can set up a plan online?

* Short term: you owe less than $100,000 in tax, penalties and interest, and can pay in 180 days or less.
* Long term: you owe $50,000 or less and have filed all required returns.
* Over $50,000, you may still get a plan, but it takes a financial form. A tax pro can help.

Penalties and interest keep growing until the balance is paid in full.

Results depend on your situation. Not every case qualifies.

## How this payment plan estimator works

A short term plan gives you up to 180 days with no setup fee. You can apply online if you owe less than $100,000.

A long term plan is monthly. With auto pay from your bank, the setup fee is $29 online or $107 by phone or mail. Other ways to pay cost $69 online or $178 by phone or mail. You can apply online if you owe $50,000 or less and filed all returns.

We add interest at the current IRS rate and the 0.25% a month plan penalty for people who filed on time.

## Common questions

What if I owe more than $50,000?

You may still get a plan. It takes a call or Form 9465, and the IRS may ask about your income and bills.

Can low income filers skip the fee?

With auto pay, yes. Without it, the fee is $43 and may be paid back.
