# Privacy policy

Plain words on what happens to your information.

**Version 2026-10-29.**

This policy covers taxtruce.com ("TaxTruce", "we", "us"). TaxTruce is run by CloserDrop LLC, an Illinois limited liability company.

## 1. What we collect

When you ask for help:

* Name, phone, email, ZIP, city and state.
* Your answers about your taxes: about how much you owe, who you owe (the IRS, your state or both), whether your returns are filed, any letter code and date, anything happening now (like a garnishment or a levy), and your income type.
* Proof of your request: date, time, page, IP address, and the consent words you agreed to.
* Call recordings and transcripts if you call our phone line. The call starts by saying it is recorded.

We never ask for and never want your Social Security number, bank or card numbers, date of birth, or IRS online login. Please do not type them on the site or say them on a call.

When you visit the site:

* Pages you view, the link or ad that brought you, and your device type. We skip this when your browser sends Global Privacy Control.

## 2. How we use it

* To connect you with tax resolution firms that can review your situation.
* To mark a request urgent when you tell us about a garnishment, a levy or a collection letter, so a firm calls sooner.
* To run, secure and improve the site.
* To stop fraud, follow the law and keep the records it requires.

## 3. Who we share it with

* Your request is sold or shared with the tax resolution firms that work with TaxTruce, so they can contact you. Every firm that can get a request is listed on our [partners page](/partners). Each request keeps the list you were shown. A request may go to more than one firm. This is a "sale" under some state privacy laws.
* Service providers who work for us: our hosting, text code, phone and email providers. They may only use the data to serve us.
* Courts and regulators when the law requires it.
* A buyer of our business, if we sell it.

We never share your information with the IRS or any tax agency unless the law makes us.

## 4. Your choices and rights

* Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information: use the link at the bottom of every page, or email privacy@taxtruce.com. We stop selling your information and tell the firms that have it to stop contacting you.
* Stop calls or texts in any words that make it clear: reply STOP to a text, tell the firm, tell our phone line, email us, or use [Do not call me](/contact?stop=1). We honor it within 10 business days, for calls and texts.
* Depending on your state (including California, Texas, Vermont, Florida, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon and others), you may ask to know, get a copy of, correct, or delete your information, and opt out of sale, sharing, targeted ads and profiling. We answer within 45 days. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. You may use an authorized agent. You may appeal a denial by emailing privacy@taxtruce.com.
* California: you can also limit the use of sensitive information. Tax debt answers are private money facts, and we use them only to match you with a firm.
* We honor Global Privacy Control signals from your browser as an opt out of sale and sharing.

## 5. How long we keep it

Requests are deleted 730 days after the request date. We keep only the date, the kind of tax problem, the state and the sharing history needed for tax and legal records.

## 6. Security

We use encryption in transit, access limits and audit logs. No system is perfect. If a breach affects you, we will tell you and the regulators the law requires.

## 7. Children

This site is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

## 8. Changes

We will post changes here with a new version and date.

## 9. Contact

## Privacy questions

What do you do with my phone number?

After you confirm it with a text code, we share it with the tax resolution firms on our partners list so they can contact you.

How do I opt out?

Reply STOP to any text or use our contact page.
