# Can I get a payment plan if my wages are garnished?

The short answer

Yes. The IRS must release a levy if you enter a payment plan whose terms don't allow the levy to continue. Call the number on the levy notice. Payment plans are open to most people who can pay over time.

While a plan is in effect, the IRS generally won't take enforced collection action.
