# Can the IRS take my whole paycheck?

Updated October 8, 20261 sourceTaxTruce team[Fact checked](/editorial-standards)

The short answer

Not usually. Part of your pay is exempt. But if you don't return your dependents form in 3 days, the exempt amount is figured with no dependents. And a bonus paid alone can go in full. If you have other income, the IRS may use your exemption there and take 100% from one employer.

Court ordered child support that came first can be released from the levy.
